Sativa vs Indica: Which One Is For Me?

Although Wisconsin does not have a full medical marijuana program yet, we are hopeful that 2023 will be the year a plan is set in motion! 37 states have already legalized medical cannabis, and Wisconsin will surely follow soon.

You should try and be as prepared as possible when the medical marijuana program does launch, so you can enjoy a relatively smooth process and less of a learning curve. One thing many new cannabis users often have questions about is the different strains of marijuana.

There are three main strains of cannabis: sativa, indica, and hybrid (a mix of the two). Each strain is known to have different effects on the mind and body. In this blog, we will fill you in on everything you need to know about the strains, so you can determine which strain is best for you.

Sativa

Sativa strains are said to be energizing and uplifting. If you need an extra energy boost, sativa may be the best option.

Sativa dominant strains are popular for those experiencing depression, stress, or fatigue. Many people also say that sativa strains boost focus and creativity, making them perfect for those who want to be productive during the day.

Indica

Sativa is uplifting and energizing and indica is basically the exact opposite. Indica dominant strains are known for their relaxing and almost sedating effects. Indica strains are great for those who have sleeping problems.

Indica strains are also known for their effectiveness in treating insomnia, anxiety, and generalized pain.

Hybrid strains are a mix of indica and sativa. If you don’t necessarily want to be energized but also don’t want to feel tired, a hybrid strain may be worth a try.

The Bottom Line

The question of which strain is best for you can be answered by a simple question: what do you want to get out of your medicine? Do you want to be able to be productive during the day? Try sativa. Do you have trouble sleeping? Try indica.

We recommend that you actually try both strains and hybrid strains to figure out what works best for you. Marijuana is not one size fits all, and everybody has their own personal preferences.

The strain you pick should also depend on your qualifying condition and your symptoms. We recommend asking an employee at your local dispensary for their opinion. If you tell them your symptoms and what you want to get from your medicine, they can give you a product recommendation.
